The New Mel Brooks Musical
Hilton Theatre
(11/8/2007 - 1/4/2009)
Book by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan

Synopsis:

A young neurosurgeon inherits the castle of his grandfather, the famous Dr. Victor von Frankenstein.

In the castle he finds a funny hunchback called Igor, a pretty lab assistant named Inga and the old housekeeper, Frau Blucher.

Young Frankenstein does not believe in the work of his grandfather, but when he discovers the book where the mad doctor described his reanimation experiment, he suddenly changes his mind...

Cast (Featuring):

Roger Bart (Dr. Frederick Frankenstein), Megan Mullally (Elizabeth), Sutton Foster (Inga), Shuler Hensley (The Monster), Fred Applegate (Kemp), Andrea Martin (Frau Blucher) and Christopher Fitzgerald (Igor)

"A highly entertaining musical-comedy spectacular featuring endless doses of Brooks' classic vaudeville-style humor, terrific performances from an ensemble who have more than a little to live up to and typically expert staging by Susan Stroman.

If the show doesn't live up to the level of its predecessor (The Producers) -- nor, for that matter, to the comedic brilliance of its film inspiration -- it still registers as a hilarious crowd-pleaser."

"Just like her stage work, Sutton's drawings can be appreciated on two unique levels. From afar, they suggest a moment caught in time, a portrait of nature. But look closely at the details involved and you can appreciate the hard work it takes for Sutton to make it look so easy."

"If the song list is eclectic, so is the singer. You know that magical quality of morning light after a night of torrential downpour?

Redemptive. Pure. Joyful, but hard-won by having survived the rain."
